Glenn L. Austin
Musician

I've been playing music since 1969 - starting on organ and piano, and in 1974 adding several different brass instruments, although my primary brass instruments are the trumpet and flugelhorn.

Over the years, I've played everything from an antique Steinway upright grand that my mother learned on (which is older than she is) to the Thomas Trianon organ (complete with "champagne bubble" marks) that Bob Ralston played with the Laurence Welk orchestra. As far as brass instruments go, I've played trumpet, trombone, baritone, french horn, flugelhorn, and tuba.

I currently have a Kurzweil Mark 10W where I do most of my composing and arranging, as well as some recording, in conjunction with Finale 98 running on a Macintosh PowerBook G3.

My main brass instruments are my King Silver Flair trumpet and Signet Flugelhorn. I also have a King trombone that I play when the occasion calls for an additional 'bone player (and nothing is going on with a trumpet part).

For the last several years, I've played with Watsonville's Green Valley Christian Center's orchestra, including two Christmas presentations and two Labor Day weekend "tours" to San Diego and Sacramento. The most interesting time was the last Christmas presentation where I played my trumpet and keyboards, sometimes at the same time, and both trumpet and trombone -- although not at the same time -- in the last Labor Day weekend "tour."

After moving to Vancouver, Washington, I played with the Portland Bible Church's orchesta and with the band playing with Ron Kenoly when he performed in the Vancouver area. I also was the sound engineer at Fourth Plain Nazarene until April 2000. I've taken a sabbatical from performance for the last several months to recover my "creative juices."
